Happenings at Prairie Pointe

Rae Bland’s devotional last Sunday was “The Suffering Servant” from Isiah 53. Jesus came to pay the penalty for all our sins. He accomplished His purpose on the cross. We enjoyed singing some gospel songs.

Willie and JoAnn Smith dropped off a delicious cake last week which was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone at Prairie Pointe. And, if you know these two, then you know they always have a few jokes to drop off as well. Do you know what crows did before the crow bar was invented? Answer: They had to drink at home. Did you hear Fed X and UPS had merged? The new company’s name is Fed Up. David’s ID was stolen so now we have to call him Dav. Seems like nothing is manufactured in the United States anymore. Willie bought a TV and on the box it says “Built-in Antenna”. He doesn’t even know where that is. Thanks Willie and JoAnn! You made our day!

Here at Prairie Pointe, Lisa Gordon, Administrator and Director of Nursing is always pushing water for the health benefits of being well hydrated.

I have tried to drink 8 glasses a day but it’s harder than it sounds. I read in a farm magazine recently that like any old cattle or hog feeder can figure out, if animals don’t drink enough water, they just can’t perform as well.

That’s goes for humans too. The skin contains 64 percent water, muscles and kidneys are 79 percent, and even our bones are watery at 31 percent.

We all just need to get back to basics. We shouldn’t put down any particular foods, just eat in moderation from all the food groups, exercise and drink lots of water. It’s a good thing!

Our dog Buddy has been pretty good lately. His trips to the farm seem to have quenched his desire for travel and excitement.

He loves to follow the brush hog and chase whatever varmint jumps out—rats, rabbits, skunks. Also, if there is a water hole, he’s in it. Last Saturday he had a new experience. He jumped in a hole that appeared to be water but about an inch down, it was thick raw sewage. He was stuck and sinking fast.

Luckily, Jim was right there and managed to quickly grab his collar and pull him out. It was scary and then very nasty as he immediately shook off like dogs do and the smelly debris went in all directions. Just another day at the farm and since it was Saturday, baths for all.

Our prayers and sympathies go out to the families of John Newnam, Sr and his son-in-law Mike Smith of Kendrick as the latest Lincoln County victims of the COVID virus.

John, Sr had an insurance office here in Stroud which he shared with his wife Caroline Sue (Sanders) who is a seamstress. Mike and wife Suzanne (Newnam) operated M & S Electric. This is a huge loss to their families as well as our community.

This coronavirus rages on and although there has been some promising news about a vaccine, we have many months to go. There is no mask mandate in Oklahoma but that doesn’t mean you can’t wear one. Please protect yourself and protect others. Wash your hands, wear a mask and social distance. Like I heard someone say the other day “It’s real annoying and inconvenient….. but so is death.”

The burden this virus has put on our hospitals and healthcare workers is overwhelming and not sustainable. Please do you part to help.
