Overwhelming power

The hairs on the back of my neck begin to stand in respect as goosebumps race down my arms and legs in shock and awe.

The sound waves crash over me filling my senses and demanding a reaction. The overwhelming score filled with power and passion pass through my ears and over me.

I take these feelings and reactions for granted whenever I’m listening to music.

Each time I’m listening, I’m filled with more emotions than I care to work through.

Whether I’m passively listening as I’m trying to get work done, or if I’m actively listening to the words of a new album, it always demands a reaction.

Sometimes the reaction is as small as tapping my foot with the beat, or as grand as screaming the words and dancing like nobody’s around to see.

Thinking back, I don’t remember a point where I began listening to music. It was always there comforting and helping me to work through all the wild emotions people feel.

Throughout my life, I played multiple instruments.

It was difficult learning to play them, but it helped me better appreciate the music I listened to everyday.

Whenever I listen to my favorite Broadway film score, I am still thrown into wonder and respect. I know how hard it is to play something as simple as Mary Had a Little Lamb.

These artists are playing intricate chords and strings like they were born to simply play.

The amount of practice and sacrifice they have made for their instruments couldn’t have been small feats.

As a college student, I help put on concerts, and it is the most full circle experience.

Now, not only do I get to listen to music constantly, but I have the opportunity to reach out to bands and ask them to come share their stories and talents with a school I love.

Music is a close confidant and friend. I think it is beautiful that so many people can listen to various tunes and notes, and each of us will have a different reaction.

The unifying key is that no matter who you are or what you are listening to music demands a reaction.
