Town Talk

Congratulations to Larry Henderson and Alfreidya Webster on the official grand opening of their purchase of the Skyliner Motel. The Chamber of Commerce recently held a ribbon cutting ceremony to welcome the new owners. Larry and Alfreidya have made many updates to the motel which has long been a tourist attraction on Route 66. Visitors coming through town love to take a picture of the large neon sign. John Owens and Vivian Henshaw recently updated the Route 66 emblem at the bottom of the sign. They painted the sun setting on the west side and the sun rising on the east sign along with a Route 66 logo. If you couldn’t make it to the grand opening, just stop by sometime. I’m sure they would love to show you around.

Billi Kaye Smith Meacham sent an interesting text this week. A friend of hers from Norman told her she was in Stroud a few weeks ago for a baseball tournament. She ate at Ruby’s and made very positive comments to Billi Kaye about the food and service. Nice that our community’s reputation is getting out and that people are providing feedback to us. Every time people visit our community we make an impression – either positive or negative. It’s good to know this lady had a positive experience in Stroud.

City Manager Bob Pearman tells me that work will begin very soon on the new shade awning that will be placed in Foster Park over the playground equipment. Town Talk was able to purchase the awning with a donation from the hospital’s management company, One Cura. It will be a wonderful addition to the park.

School is back in session this week so be sure and watch out for the kiddos walking to and from school. Thank you to all our teachers who began working early to get their classrooms ready for that first day of school. Town Talk also wants to welcome all new employees and teachers who are new to our district this year. Brenda Gooch has retired as elementary school principal and is looking forward to spending more time with her grandchildren. Congratulations, Brenda.

We will begin work next week putting the mini-golf holes together. We will meet Monday morning at 10:00 a.m. at the City’s building behind City Hall and just across the railroad track. If you are available, please come join us. They fit together like a jigsaw puzzle, so they are not difficult to put together. As we finish each hole, we will move them to their Main Street location.

Have a great week and remember to shop and dine local……………. first!
