Update from Meeker Town Hall

1. Update on asphalt overlay on Highway 18.

A. Oklahoma Department of Transportation has completed the asphalt overlay on the east side of Highway 18 from Highway 62 to Highway 66.

They have turned around and are coming back towards Highway 62.

The road grader has bladed the dirt from the side of the road so that the tar and asphalt can be laid to the correct width. 2. Update on

Chamber of Commerce.

A. Josh Sims, President of the Chamber of Commerce is still working with the fireworks company for a pyrotechnician to come and shoot off the fireworks. The chamber is still looking at the date of August 21, 2021, for an option. Keep reading for an update.

B. Summer swim program is still going on for Meeker residents conducted at the Prague Swimming Pool. Contact Lavern Babinchak at 405- 279-3535 for details.

3. Update on Library.

A. Start making plans for the Bunko Party sponsored by the Friends of the Library. Call 405- 279-1139 for details.

B. Apply for your library card and check out some new books. Let your eyes read about all the places that you may or may not be able to visit in your lifetime. Please use our great library to expand your education, and remember it is free.

4. Update on sanitizing City facilities.

A. We will continue to “fog” sanitize City Hall, Library, Police Station, and Public Works Authority Buildings.

B. Please continue our good habits of washing hands often, maintaining a 6-foot social distancing from one another, cover your mouth if you cough, and if some one starts coughing around you, back up and put more space between you and them. Keep your work areas and cars or trucks that we drive clean as possible on the inside. Please remember The Town of Meeker is a face mask free area, you are welcome to wear a mask if you feel you need one.

5. Update on Growth and Development.

A. I mentioned in last week’s article about the discussion about not selling alcohol on Main Street, this all pertains to the Pumpkin Festival only. Sorry for leaving the Pumpkin Festival part out.

B. Join the Growth and Development meetings held at City Hall every 2nd Monday of the month at 6:30 pm. They have many great ideas for beautification for Main Street, but they need some helpers.

6. Update on Annexation.

A. The public hearing for the Annexation will at Meeker City Hall August 23, 2021, at 6 pm. Sorry for the delays.

7. Update on Grants.

A. David Smith from Oklahoma Department Health Department presented the Town of Meeker a beautiful acrylic plaque and certificate showing approval on our completion of the Healthy Awareness. We achieved the bronze, silver, and gold levels for $36,000 of funding that was spent on the parks.
