This is the Fifty-Fifth article in a permanent column for Stroud Arts that appears in the Stroud American. The mission of these articles is to inform, educate and inspire you, the reader, to Make Art Happen in your life and the life of our community.

It takes time to create Art.

When looking at Stroud Arts newest Podcast program ‘Fairy Tales,’ it is amazing seeing something created where nothing existed before. In some ways, this program is nothing new for our design team and in others, we are breaking new ground in our performance capabilities.

For those not familiar with the Podcast media experience, a good way to think of our program is as Radio Style Drama. Indeed, the Podcast is a new iteration of what some remember as ‘Old Time Radio.’ Much like Radio programming from the 1920’s through the 1950’s, Podcasting covers everything from; Current News Events, Product Reviews, Celebrity Interviews, Political Ideology, How to Programs, to Comedy, Drama and Music and more. However, the new format of individual channels gives the listener total control over what programs they want to hear.

For Stroud Arts, our Fairy Tale program will bring classic and more contemporary Fairy Tales to our audience. In addition, we are hosting local actors, both kids and adults, to provide the voices for the characters.

By the time you read this, we will have recorded; Rapunzel, The Three Billy Goats Gruff, and The Elves and the Shoemaker. We will also begin rehearsals for; The Little Red Hen and The Bremen Town Musicians. Our production timeline will bring one to three programs from rehearsal to recording each week and we will be releasing our edited programs to the public at a minimum of one a week starting in October.

We consider this to be a longterm project and plan to create a complete performance catalogue of around Fifty Fairy Tale Programs by Christmas.

Beyond having local actors provide the character voices, we have Stroud artist Pam Clement illustrating the stories and Chandler’s own Poet, Musician and Professor, Ben Myers composing the intro and exit music. For recording, sound mixing and editing we have Stroud’s Shamus Palermo providing his expertise.

That brings me to the equipment and technology curve we have had to travel in putting this project together.

While Podcasting is fairly simple, you only need; Microphones, Sound Mixer, Headphones, Computer, Digital Audio Recording Program and the patience to put them all together and learn how to effectively use the program. You also need vision, patience, perseverance and the drive to create a new program where there was nothing before.

That is where the discipline of Art truly shines. The Artist must have a Vision of what they want to create, Patience to move through setbacks and obstacles, the Perseverance of managing a project to completion and the internal Drive to make it happen.

The Art Discipline trains its students to Dream and Create. That is why we at Stroud Arts… Make Art Happen.
