Happenings at Prairie Pointe

Residents at Prairie Pointe made a special effort to vote via absentee ballot so I sure hope those of you who could get out and felt comfortable doing so, made it to the polls. Five of the many reasons you should vote are: 1) Elections have consequences. 2) Not voting is giving up your voice. 3) It’s your money and if you don’t vote you are giving up the chance to choose how your tax dollars are spent. 4) Voting is an opportunity for change. 5) The community depends on you. If you missed this election, please put the first Tuesday in November (November 3) on your calendar now. Prairie Pointe residents have already requested absentee ballots for November. It’s a very easy process. Call Melissa Stambaugh at the County Election Board 405 258 1349. She will help you make sure your voice is heard.

Sunday church services included singing some good old “peppy” gospel songs. Rae Bland brought a timely devotion, “The Turmoil In Our World.” Phil Johnson dismissed the group in prayer.

Senior Services Support Specialist John Vincent with the Oklahoma Insurance Department, Medicare Assistance Program contacted me last week. His job is to serve all Oklahomans receiving Medicare now or in the future. If you have any concerns or questions, you may contact John at 405 693 0293. You may qualify for expanded Medicare Coverage that could result in less out of pocket expenses.

Lisa Gordon and Bethani Byford have been on a redecorating binge. Furniture pieces in our hallways have been moved around and beautiful handmade quilts now adorn many of our walls. If those quilts could only talk!

Ed Dyer, Administrator of the Stroud Hospital, proudly reports the hospital now employs 143 individuals and is running an 88% occupancy level. It’s no secret the hospital has struggled in years past but the current business model appears to be working. Stroud specializes in Long-Term Critical Care patients who typically stay up to 60 days. They have recently networked with OSU Tele-Health which will offer consults each day from 6 PM to 6 AM for both the ER and the floor patients. First Physicians also operates hospitals in Fairfax and Anadarko.

As the COVID-19 rages on, it demands that we do everything in our power to lessen the spread of this deadly virus. Scientists say wearing a mask will cut the rate of virus transmission by 80%.... 80%! Even if it’s only half that, is that not reason enough to wear one. Mask up people. You can make America great again. America great again! MASK
