Can you believe we are in March of 2020?

March has 31 days and is known as the first month of spring in the Northern Hemisphere, due to the vernal equinox, which occurs between March 19th and 21st of every year. This determines when spring will begin. March was also named in ancient text as a month of war.

The town of Meeker sure has been battling our share of war, with sickness and a lot of other problems. Everybody is back at work and we all feel we have one of the best working teams in a long time.

It is good getting pot holes filled and sewer lines jetted and flowing in the right direction.

We are still waiting on more bids from playground company engineers for Glenncrest Park. It should be a Meeker jewel. We all will be proud of it by the end of Summer. But still lots of hours and work to be done by many. Thanks again to all that have gotten us this far.

Remember to visit Chamber of Commerce meeting this Thursday, March 12 at 11:30 am, at the First Baptist Church.

This month’s friendliest employee award goes to City Clerk Mary Conner. Congratulations and thank you, Mary, for all that you do at City Hall. Mary is also the Town’s Court Clerk, working with Judge Murry.

She may not carry a gun, but she sure keeps things straight at City Hall. She is a tremendous help to all of us at City Hall. Mary, you are well deserving of this award. Thank you Debbie Leabo and Chamber for choosing her.

You are also welcome to attend the Town Trustee Meeting held at City Hall March 16th at 6:15 p.m. Please become involved with our town and find out what is going on.

The Trustees have an open seat that they need to appoint someone for, so call us and let us know if you are interested. The Trustees will interview and who knows your name may be next to go on the Town plaque if chosen.

We are living in a great time here in Meeker, with the Lake project coming, new sewer and water lines coming, and our tax structure is increasing every month.

Also, the Glenncrest Park renovation (Homestead Park will be next), and the Water Treatment Plantrenovation are coming soon. Come help us with the plans for street projects and other new infrastructure.

We did receive the $10,000 check this week from OMAG for the police department body cameras. I did send Wolfcom the P.O. number, so it is a done deal now.

We will receive 8 body cameras, software and information. A 5 year activation and 5 year software activation for 8 vehicles. Including another 8 free body cameras at year 3. This package has been needed for a long time.

March is National Nutrition Month. Meeker Public Library is hosting a Nutrition Workshop, sponsored by the Lincoln County Health Department.

The workshop will be March 18th, from 10am-12pm. Eat your way to better health. Some of the things you will learn is meal planning, how to read nutrition labels, how to build aproper plate, recipes for 1-2 people, and yogurt parfait recipes.

On March 25th, an EBook class will be held at the Library from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Learn how to program your I-Pad, Tablet, or phone to read books online.

The new fire station on Oak Street is about 95% complete. An audit was done with the City Clerk and Commerce Department on some of the final closing paperwork that needed to be in place.

I’ll be glad to see the new flag pole go up and the Chamber of Commerce do the ribbon cutting.

March 3rd was a very busy day at City Hall for the presidential primary voting. Trump was the GOP winner (92.6%), with Democrats: Biden (38.7%) and Sanders (25.4%).

I saw where Bloomberg and Warren have fallen out of the race.

To me it sure does seem like a lot of wasted money and time that some of the losers spend on advertising and campaigning. If they would have spent just a portion of that money on other projects it sure could have helped a lot of people. But, we all know about wealthy people and their egos and deep pockets.

Enjoy your Daylight Savings time. Put your fingers in some dirt and grow something or go to the Red Dirt Raceway and watch the race cars spin out, and sling dirt.

Ahh, the smells of burning rubber, oil and grease, and that smell of racing fuel is something else. Yes, I’m glad it is racing season again.

Remember buy your fuel, ice, snacks, and groceries here in town to keep our tax dollars at home. With everything we have going on for the betterment of Meeker, we need to keep going forward and tax money helps.
