I hate to report about COVID-19 again but our numbers for our area are going up.

Three Meeker residents reported positive for the Corona Virus and two of the three have recovered. I am still waiting on the 3 rd person’s report. So please continue to social distance, wash your hands often, and wear a mask.

Let’s all just continue on a little bit longer and maybe this thing will go away soon.

The Meeker Lake Project is waiting on contractors to bid on removal and replacement of a small section of the 24” water pipe so that the camera may inspect the pipe. This contractor who wins the bid will be paid by the soil conservation group from Oklahoma City. This is still all part of our original deal.

Mrs. Williams and Mrs. Walton have planted more plants in the Growth and Development water trough. Other members have participated in watering of the plants. A new planter has been added in front of the Post Office.

Donations are being accepted for more plants, flowers, and decorations. All those pretty colors are sure beautifying main street. Come Look! They will keep these planters up to date with seasonal activities.

Remember the rodeo this weekend, June 26 and 27 at 8:00 p.m. with the parade being Saturday morning the 27 at 10:30 a.m. Line up will be at the Meeker High School Gym parking lot at 10:00 a.m.

This week I am working on securing between $170,000 to $180,000 from the Indian Health Services for our manhole repair and replacements and 17,000 linear feet of sewer line replacement. Another deal we will be securing is $425,000 from COEDD, both amounts will pay for the Town’s matching part for the 1.7 million dollar grant we have received.

All the playground sets have been ordered. Also, approximately 6,000 square feet of brown mulch and border has been ordered.

The washed sand was hauled by the County guys and is in place for the new volleyball area. City guys have cleaned off the grass and dirt on what will be the basketball court. I also met with O.G.&E. Project Manager Specialist, Corky Tomlin for new lighting for the area.

The T-ball back stop will be painted and kept in place. Paved parking will be added along with picnic tables and benches under the shade trees. Additional sitting benches will be placed throughout the park.

The old swing set and monkey bars will be painted and relocated at the park. A partial new walk path is also included for the area. All the above was funded by local residents and the T-set group (Tobacco Settlement Fund).

The weather finally dried up enough that we got the donated Bennett property mowed and cleaned up behind City Hall. We found an inground concrete storm shelter on the property.

We pumped the water out and with a lot of cleaning, and storm water paint, and a new door we think it might be a good “fraidy hole” for us. I like it when a plan comes together.

Mike Haines, a candidate for Senator Smalley’s seat will be at City Hall June 25 at 6:30 p.m. Bring your questions and talk to him about what he is going to do for us in this area. Also don’t forget the election on June 30.
