Wellston school bonds breeze

Lincoln County voters in the Wellston and McLoud school districts decided bond issues Tuesday in special elections.

Voters in the Wellston school district overwhelmingly approved two propositions while two McLoud school bond issues were barely rejected.

Wellston school district patrons approved one for $700,000 and the other is a $160,000 bond issue. The $160,000 proposal is to provide funds for purchasing transportation equipment. It won with 185 voting in favor to 24 against. That was nearly an 89 percent rate of approval.

The $700,000 bond proposition is to allow the district to construct, equip, repair and remodel school buildings and acquire school furniture, fixtures and equipment and acquiring and improving school sites.

It received 187 favorable votes to only 23 opposed.

McLoud School District patrons rejected a $2,915,000 bond proposition by the slimmest of margins. The vote was 416 in favor to 284 against.

It needed a 60 percent favorable vote.

It was for funds to construct, equip, repair, remodel school buildings, acquiring and improving school sites to include but not limited to a new high school cafeteria. And for remodeling the high school and junior school and replacement and renovation of the football field and track.

Proposition 2 totaled. $2,810,000 and is to provide funds for constructing, equipping, repairing and remodeling school buildings, acquiring school furniture and fixtures and equipment and acquiring and improving school sites.

The vote on it was 415 yes and 290 opposing.

A similar $5 million bond proposal was rejected by voters in November.

The proposition was favored by 51.53 percent of those who voted.
