Davenport’s Bulldogs gave the scoreboard a workout in Depew Friday night, ringing up 56 points and getting their first district win of the season.

The Bulldogs are 6-0 on the season and are back in action Friday against Prue in a game that will serve as a make-up for Homecoming activities that were cancelled previously due to COVID-19.

Carson Funk scored Davenport’s first two touchdowns, running 15 yards with 4:38 left and for 10 yards in the final minute of the first quarter.

He came back with an 11-yard touchdown pass to Casey Harrelson at the 8:48 mark of the second quarter.

Caden Ingram recovered an on-side kick to set up a Funk scoring pass to Parker Mitchell touchdown to make it 28-0, Davenport.

Depew finally scored to cut the lead to 28-8, but Funk hit Mitchell with a 25-yard scoring throw to make it 34-6 at halftime.

Colten Van Rossen recovered a fumble to set up another Funk-to-Harleson touchdown pass in the third quarter, and A.J. Jenkins racked up a safety to make it 44-6.

Mitchell scored on a 54-yard run and then Van Fossen closed out the scoring - and the game - with a three-yard run in the fourth quarter.

Funk paced the Bulldogs’ offense by throwing for 328 yards on 26 completions, and he ran for an additional 45 yards.

Mitchell ran 16 times for 161 yards and Chance Acord carried 11 times for 45.

Harrelson and Gage Keith were the primary recipients of Funk’s throws. Keith had nine grabs for 104 yards and Harrelson eight for 108. Campbell Miller and Mitchell had four catches for 27 and 42 yards, respectively.

On defense, Houston Byford had 11 tackle and a sack. Peyton Gaylord had eight tackles and Mitchell had six. Harrelson and Cruz Hilan had five tackles each, with Harrelson getting credit for a pass deflection.
