The COVID-influenced race in District 2A-2 is down to its final three games, barring any makeups, with the standings beginning to shape up for the playoff berths.
The Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association is treating any games cancelled because of COVID-19 as non-games, rather than forfeits, which has a major impact on determining which qualify for the district’s four playoff spots.
“In the event that a district football game cannot be played due to an issue with the COVID-19 Virus and the Superintendent of the impacted school has notified the OSSAA Executive Director in writing that the virus has caused a situation where the game cannot be played; that game would be considered a ‘no-contest,’ no win or loss would be recorded and no marginal victory points would be assigned to either school,” reads the notice on the OSSAA web site.
“The District standings for that district would then be determined using the following criteria:
1. Total number of district wins. (The number of wins only in district play, not a won/loss percentage.)
2. Head to Head Results.
3. Average number of marginal points in district play.
4. Lot.”
Under those guidelines, Jones and Millwood, which play Friday at Jones, are in the lead for the district’s two homefield slots for the playoffs.
Jones has four wins and Millwood three, pending that game.
Chandler and Kellyville are tied with two wins and Meeker and Prague are tied with one each.
Pending any makeups or further cancellations, Prague has suffered the most from COVID, being able to play only two district games.
Millwood, Meeker, Crossings Christian and Star-Spencer have played three each, while Jones and Chandler have been able to play the full schedule of four.
