The McLoud Redskins are 3-3 after losing 21-13 to eighth-ranked Kingfisher last week in a contest that Coach Rusty Hall said, “We just came up a little short at the end.”

The Redskins are on the road tonight (Thursday) to take on ninthranked Anadarko at 7 p.m.

On Monday, Hall said of his team, “We played well. Defensively, we played really, really a good game. We forced three turnovers, two fumbles and Wes Olds intercepted a pass.”

Offensively, we had a couple of drives that stalled at their 20 yard line or so. We missed a point extra attempt on a high snap and then we missed a field goal in the third quarter. Those were huge,” he said.

“If we had hit the field goal, we win,” he thinks, noting “that would have put us ahead 16-14.”

“They would have had to start passing and we defended well against the pass all night,” Hall said.

Hall said Kingfisher scored their last touchdown with 44 seconds remaining in the contest and that was on a 44-yard run. “That was their longest run. Other than that, we held them to about 100 yards on the ground.”

“We did a great job against the pass,” he added. “They had one long pass play for a TD and that was when our cornerback fell down.”

The veteran McLoud coach thought, “we out-offensed them. We just didn’t capitalize by scoring points when they were within reach.”

Hall commented that his senior signal caller Collin Gibson threw three interceptions, but stressed, “only one of those really hurt us. He still threw for about 130 yards.” He described the Redskins’

He described the Redskins’ ground game as okay. Gibson had over 100 yards rushing and sophomore running back Clint Campbell had 55 rushing yards.

About tonight’s opponent, Hall expects Anadarko to run the ball 65- 70 percent of the time and also use the play action pass some. “They are big and physical. They’ll run right at us. They will be a good test for our defensive people up front,” he believes.

But Hall also thinks, “we may be a little quicker than they are. I think we can throw the ball against them.”
