After a shortened year due to the Covid pandemic, members of Stroud’s Beta Sigma Phi chapter met to wrap up the year and announce chapter honors since the Founder’s day event was cancelled.

Members met at the American Legion building where social distancing was in order.

Mary Jackson, President, presided over her last meeting heading the chapter.

She was given a personal gift and President’s gavel guard in appreciation for her year of service.

Jackson presented personal gifts to her executive board.

Members celebrating upcoming birthdays or anniversaries were recognized.

New Officers were installed and took over the business portion of the meeting with Linda Stephens, President, presiding.

Other officers were Pam Hunt, Vice President; Chris Hodge, Treasurer, Davina McGee, recording secretary, Kim Johnson, corresponding secretary and Michelle Doherty, extension officer.

Committee assignments were made and the new budget approved.

The President announced that the chapter had received a Three-star rating from the International Executive council of Beta Sigma Phi, noting a balance of activities for the enjoyment of members.

Chapter awards, normally presented at the annual Founder’s day banquet, were announced. Rachel Shields received the highest honor member can receive, the Woman of the Year award.

The announcement was made by last year’s recipients, Sue Helms and Pam Hunt who noted Rachel’s many achievements during her years of membership, including past Vice President, President, Angel tree chair, Girls State committee chair, International Beta Sigma Phi Valentine Queen, whose picture has been used by the organization in publicity campaigns.

She also served on the State Convention committee, developing artwork used on shirts, charms and other convention materials.

The outstanding Program of the Year was awarded to Darlene Lau whose presentation was on the Stroud High School Student Council “Be Nice” program that was presented at a meeting by Heather Chace, faculty cosponsor of the program.

The Highlights of the sorority year were presented by Rachel Shields, who gave a humorous overview of activities, noting that even through a pandemic, with the year cut short, members had a productive year.

Beta Sigma Phi marched on, taking advantage of technology, meeting via ZOOM and texts galore.

Kindness and love were given, donations were made too many service projects, outstanding programs were presented by members and good times were had by all.
