Dale draws Rattan in baseball bracket

Fresh from winning the regional tournament on the road at Canute, the Dale Pirates open action in the state playoffs this afternoon at Dolese Park in Oklahoma City. Coach Eddie Jeffcoat’s Pirates will face Rattan at 4 p.m. at Palmer Field.

The other night I covered a football game up at Meeker. It a rivalry contest between the Bulldogs of Meeker and the Prague Red Devils. At stake, was the winner taking home the Highway 62 Traveling Trophy. The trophy is sponsored by Anthony’s Food Stores.

Defending state champion Riley Randall turned in a time of 18:13.56 to win the inaugural Bulldog Invitational cross country meet by 12 seconds Thursday. The meet was held at Camp Gruber at Sparks and was run on a scenic course under hot, muggy weather.

Davenport cruises in opener

The Class B Davenport Bulldogs pounded Weleetka 42-18 in their season opener on the road last week and play at home Friday against Wetumka Ḋavenport Coach John Greenfield said Friday night’s home opener kicks off at 7:30 p.m. at Bulldog Stadium.

NRC falls to Crescent

Crescent took advantage of North Rock-Creek turnovers to hand the Cougars a 30-12 loss Friday night. If was the Cougars’ first setback and leaves them at 1-1 heading into this Friday’s Homecoming game against Konawa.

Bethel hands Meeker first loss, 45-19

Meeker upped its offensive output from the season opener, putting up 415 yards of total offense, but still fell, 45-19, at Bethel. In their opening win at Stroud, the Bulldogs relied on their defense, which returned two interceptions for touchdowns.

Crummy start to dove season

This year’s dove season opener on Sep. 1, in terms doves of actually seen, can be described as the absolute worst. My cousin Dan Snare and I hunted the late afternoon and evening north of Calumet on property owned by my late cousin Bill Mansfield and his wife.
