The Meeker Board of Education this week hired a new elementary principal, administered the Oath of Office to a new board member and employed two elementary school teachers.

Two to stand trial in chop shop case

Jury trials have been scheduled for two of the defendants in an alleged chop shop operation and a pre-preliminary hearing has been continued for a third.

Manslaughter suspect in court

An initial appearance has been set for a Jennings man facing a first degree manslaughter charge or in the alternative negligent homicide who was driving a semi-trailer truck that collided with a vehicle driven by a Stroud man who died in the crash.

Chandler High School’s FCCLA recently attended the state FCCLA convention, where they received several awards. The chapter is a Gold chapter, which is an award given to only 35 chapters out of 320 chapters from across the state. They also were recognized for 100 percent participation in membership.

Drug hearing continued

A pre-preliminary hearing has been continued again for a Meeker man who was arrested after officers served a search warrant on his residence across from the Town Hall. A formal felony charge was filed in Lincoln County District Court Sep. 23 against John Henry Hagar, 34.

Trial date set for Sparks man

A Sparks man charged with four felonies and two misdemeanors has been ordered to stand trial and set for the felony disposition docket. Formal felony charges were filed May 4, 2022 in Lincoln County District Court against James Leonard Smothers, 41 following his arrest by Lincoln County deputies.

Status conference continued for Stillwater rape suspect

The status conference has been continued again for a young man facing first and second degree rape charges, who has been ordered to stand trial in June. Formal charges were filed in Lincoln County District Court Sep. 1.

Driver fined $32K

An out-of-state driver is facing two felony drugrelated charges following his arrest by state troopers who also found $32,000 in his vehicle and a quantity of marijuana. Lin Pi Xing, 51, of New York was formally charged Feb.

I realize that I’ve touched on this topic before, but it’s one that for whatever reason continues to get under my skin almost each time I’m in and around retail establishments throughout the area. It reminds me of a couple of my pet peeves.

Was anybody else unprepared for all the changes that happen when your kids switch from babies to toddlers? I know I can’t be the only one. Charlee and Tillie are out of the baby stage and they are now toddlers. Things I never thought about turned out to make me real sad.
