Lincoln County Commissioners are addressing what has been termed “An Emergency Medical Services crisis.” They recently voted to create an Emergency Medical Services Advisory Board and appointed the seven members to it. Purpose of that board is to begin addressing the crisis in Lincoln County.

Folks who keep the fair going

Pottawatomie County’s Free Fair unfolds next week and it’s the 84th year for the event. It would be the 85th, except it was canceled in 2020 due to COVID-19. I’m glad to see some events and exhibits returning like the Big Bass tourney which was started last year and returns again this year.

Town Talk

We have another new business on Main Street. Dell and Jenni Sparger recently purchased the RV Park and Pawn Shop on Route 66 just west of Stroud. After the purchase they decided to move the Pawn Shop to downtown Stroud. It is in the building that was formerly the Sisters Consignment Store.

Interesting people

I’ve gotten to meet a few interesting people in my time. Sat on a plane one day next to Bob Richards, the Vaulting Parson, whose visage graced Wheaties cereal boxes when I was a kid. He was in 70s at the time and pleased beyond measure that I recognized him.

Town Talk

If you’re looking for something fun to do this weekend, the Lincoln County Fair will be happening August 24th – 26th. There will be a horse show, live music and all-day activities on Saturday. Check the schedule for details at www.LincolnCountyFairOK.

Dove season

I’ve always looked forward to this time of year. The month of August is normally hot and it’s been plenty hot lately, topping the century mark regularly as September nears. Some areas across the state have seen muchneeded rain. Others not so much.

Back to school memories

Many of the schools in the area started back this past week, signaling the end to the summer break.

Monroe’s DNA

A couple of months ago, Kindra got a Doggy DNA test for Reno. It confirmed that he was more than half Siberian Husky and a world-class shedder. So, I thought: I should order tests for Martin and Monroe and see what kind of ancestry they have.

Town Talk

Well, I’m back this week. Last week I was a little under the weather, got my days confused and totally missed my newspaper deadline. I hope I didn’t cause you to miss an important community event last week because I didn’t have the happenings listed in the newspaper.

Child crimes

My wife Pat and I generally tune in the 10 p.m. news, weather and sports on one of the television stations. About the only time we don’t, is occasionally when we’re out late or out of town.
