Keith “Buster” Gilliam was born April 8, 1957 to Mamie Lois Pool Wildensten and Harold Gilliam in Oakland, California and passed away on August 1, 2023 in Chandler, Oklahoma at the age of 66 years.

Betty Jo Waters

Betty Jo Waters was born on September 24, 1926 east of Davenport, OK and passed to be with her Lord Sunday, July 30, 2023 at home east of Davenport, OK at the age of 96. Betty, the daughter of Archie D and Prudibelle (Scott) Oliver was a long-time resident of Davenport.

Wanda Dixie Hayes

Wanda Dixie Hayes was born April 3, 1937 southwest of Wellston, to Charles and Rosa (Bell) Sullivan. She passed away August 1, 2023 in Chandler at the age of 86. Wanda married Lowell Don Hayes in December of 1956 and they raised two sons together.

Marshall Ray “Slim” Taylor

Marshall Ray “Slim” Taylor, long time Chandler resident, passed away on August 1st, 2023 at 5:03 P.M. at the age of 91 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Marshall was born 19 October 1931 in Shawnee, Oklahoma, the son of Thomas Gus and Bessie Mae (Law) Taylor.

Imogene Ledgerwood

Imogene Thompson Ledgerwood was born on February 28, 1944 and departed this life on August 2, 2023. Jean was born to Emery and Alice (Jones) Thompson. Jean has lived most of her life around the Creek/Lincoln County area.

Meeker Quilter’s Guild camp

The Meeker Quilters’ Guild sponsored its 13th annual Summer Quilt Camp in July. This year, the camp honored Etta Busler who was a charter member of the Meeker Quilt Guild and a faithful helper with the camp. Mammoth Baptist Church hosted the 3-day event which was attended by 11 participants.

Town Talk

Well, I’m back this week. Last week I was a little under the weather, got my days confused and totally missed my newspaper deadline. I hope I didn’t cause you to miss an important community event last week because I didn’t have the happenings listed in the newspaper.

Child crimes

My wife Pat and I generally tune in the 10 p.m. news, weather and sports on one of the television stations. About the only time we don’t, is occasionally when we’re out late or out of town.

First day of practice

Dale school board

Dale Board of Education members this week hired several personnel and approved a plan for use of Esser III funds. The board also approved the 20232024 salary schedule and school principals presented their reports as the new school year began on Wednesday of this week.
