More COVID deaths

The number of COVID-19 deaths in Pottawatomie and Lincoln Counties rose by only three compared to 16 a week ago, but the new positive cases increased by more than 750, the most recent Oklahoma State Department of Health figures show.

Meeker Town Board meets on administrator

Meeker’s Town Board this week spent nearly an hour in executive session discussing the Town Administrator’s position before entering back into open meeting and voting to take it up again in a special meeting at 7 p.m. this evening.

October Student Rotarians announced

October Student Rotarians announced Chandler High School seniors Delaney Haley and Caroline McCalip were named student members of the Rotary Club for October 2021. Delaney Haley is the daughter of Ryan Haley and Shelley Haley and has one younger sibling.

Commissioners pass discussion policy

Lincoln County commissioners have approved a policy to allow public discussion and citizens comments during commission meetings, ensuring compliance with the Open Meeting Act.

PATRIOTIC ESSAY WINNER

Adrianna Rivera, an eighth grade student at Chandler Jr. High School, receives a certificate and $250 check from Kaci Jarvis, Communications Coordinator with Canadian Valley Electric Cooperative. Adrianna won first place in the CVEC and American Legion District #4 essay contest.

Meeker Middle School honor rolls released

Officials at Meeker Middle School have released the names of students listed on the honor rolls for the first nine weeks of the 2021-2022 school year. The following were on the Superintendent’s Honor Roll.

Minivan camping

Fall break was looming ever closer on the calendar and soon we would have five days with the emptiest of nests. So, Kindra and I decided to take a quick camping trip. I’d cover football Thursday night, and then we’d head out for a camping location that we hadn’t yet selected.

Editorial

Lincoln County commissioners took a step last week to allow discussion and interaction with the public on most any agenda items. During a special meeting, they voted 2-1 to establish a policy where the public can interact with them on any issue on the agenda with a couple of exceptions.

Letter to the editor

To The Editor, I have a confession. I am an addict. My ability to build and to destroy has been equal. As I work to figure out what it is that makes up this part of me the only thing that matters to me is what’s next. It’s silly for me to deny that addiction has been a driving force in my life.

Remembering influlencers

My wife Pat and I attended a memorial service this past weekend for a friend we’d known for around 30 years. It was a very nice service that honored his life. He was a military veteran and the setting couldn’t have been better on a beautiful Saturday morning overlooking the lake.
