Despite graduating five starters, including two All-Staters, Stroud’s Lady Tigers haven’t missed a beat this fast-pitch season.

Meeker opens strong, gets dominating win

It was an all-inclusive evening for Caden Wolford Friday night against Stroud. The Meeker senior kicked off, ran for a touchdown, caught a touchdown pass, had two sacks, made 12 tackles, ran for 192 yards and kicked three extra points.

NRC falls in program opener

The North Rock Creek Cougars traveled to far eastern Oklahoma for the first football game in program history, falling 22-6 Friday night. Three years into their new high school, the Cougars are playing an independent schedule this year and have their first three games on the road.

Prague puts up a W in opener at Luther

Prague opened up its season with a statement game against Luther Friday, beating the Lions 26-14 and avenging a loss from last year while announcing that this team is tougher than last year’s.

Softball tournament week

It was a busy week of softball, with area teams playing in tournaments. Above left, Carney catcher Trinity Clark collided briefly with the umpire while trying to collect a popup behind the plate against Wellston in the Depew tournament. The blue got his mask off well enough to verify the catch.

Working at the Cordell Beacon

Each of the last two weeks I’ve spent three days in Cordell helping out The Cordell Beacon, the city’s weekly newspaper. It’s a sister paper to The Tri-County Herald, the Lincoln County News and the Stroud American and several others across the state and a few in Texas.

A graveside funeral will be held for Charles Roy Schofield at 10 a.m., today , September 3, 2020, at the Wellston Cemetery. Final arrangements are under the direction of Lehman Funeral Home of Wellston. Schofield was born to Monroe and Mabel Schofield on August 15, 1955, in Chandler.

Elania Chris Scribner

Elania Chris Scribner of Chandler was born September 20, 1946, in Cushing, Okla. She died Monday, August 24, 2020, in Chandler at the age of 73 years. Scribner, the daughter of Henry Farish Howard and Laverne Cannon, married Thomas Ray Scribner on April 11, 1969.
