The Oklahoma City National Memorial and Museum is visiting all 77 counties in Oklahoma to mark the 30th anniversary year of the Murrah bombing, with its second stop in Wellston on Oct. 2, according to a press release from the foundation.
The tour visited Wellston High School, where 225 middle and high school students participated in the hightech, high-touch museum experience.
The press release said it is a chance to honor family members of those killed, surviviors, and first responders, as well as thank legislators and donors.
At Wellston, Chandler residents Cindy and Albert Ashwood shared the story of Susan Jane Ferrell, Cindy’s sister, who was killed in the bombing.
First responders from the Chandler Fire Department and Iowa Tribal Police who responded in 1995 were also recognized.
Rep. Kevin Wallace and Sen. Grant Green also participated.
“These in-person visits provide an opportunity to take this story beyond the walls of the Museum and the Memorial to all parts of our state,” the press release said. “At each stop, the Memorial Museum will share the 30th anniversary message, ‘A Day of Darkness – Years of Light,’ inspiring students, civic clubs, church groups, individuals and families to embody the Oklahoma Standard by showing up to serve, rising up to hone and stepping up to be kind.”
The program is funded in partnership with the State of Oklahoma through the Departement of Agriculture. Any schools or community group that would like to request a Journey of Hope visit, can go to MemorialMuseum.com/ JourneyofHope to make a request.
