Plea in turnpike drug case

A driver from Tulsa facing a felony drug charge following his arrest by a Highway Patrol Trooper on the Turner Turnpike has entered a no contest plea and drawn a deferred term.

Kang Zheng, 46, was formally charged in Lincoln County District Court on Oct. 9, 2024, with possession with intent to distribute.

Appearing for his arraignment recently before District Judge Sarah Bridge, Zheng, as the result of a plea bargain entered a no contest plea.

The state and Zheng waived a pre-sentence investigation.

The judge received the plea and waiver. She found the defendant guilty as charged and deferred sentencing for a period of seven years. The judge also assessed Zheng a $100 fine, a $100 VCA, court costs and ordered him to perform 24 hours of Community Service.

He was told to pay 991 fees and the judge placed Zheng on supervised probation with Oklahoma Court Services. He was ordered to report to the Probation Office and Court Clerk’s Office..

State Trooper Joan Alvarez, who made the traffic stop and arrest, states in a probable cause affidavit that she seized seven, one-pound bundles of marijuana.
