In the next several years, visitors to Stroud Lake will have a new docking option.
The city of Stroud has accepted funding from the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation for Boating/Fishing Access Facilities Development. This funding will help pay for the building of a new boat dock at Stroud Lake.
“It’s boat access,” Stroud City Manager Bob Pearman said. “We don’t have a dock on that side.”
Pearman said the dock will be ADA compliant, which will make getting in and out of boats safer and more convenient.
“It’s to help people, whenever they’re by themselves or something where they can tie off and go park their vehicle and trailers, so they have somewhere to come back to and get the boats,” Lake Ranger Jared Null said.
The grant for building the dock must be matched by a 25 percent contribution from the city.
“That match is going to come from in-kind labor and construction on our end for the sidewalk and parking lot, the lighting and the accessibility to the dock,” Pearman said. “So it’s all going to be in-kind work and materials on our end.”
The project is expected to begin in approximately 4-5 months.
While estimates on the project’s completion date are still a ways off, the lake is currently open, despite COVID-19 concerns.
“We’re still allowing everything,” Null said. “You’re outside - we’re not worried about catching something. Although we are still asking for everyone to practice their social distancing.”
