Town Talk has several new veteran banners on display on Main Street just in time for Memorial Day/Alumni weekend. We will have one more going up next week making a total of 112 veterans honored. Thank you to everyone who has supported this project. It’s never too late to purchase one. You may do so by calling me at 918-527-9833. The cost of one side of a banner is $125 which pays for the banner and one-half of the bracket. The banner will be displayed from January to November every year at no additional cost. It’s a wonderful way to honor or memorialize a friend or loved one. They do not have to be past or present residents of Stroud or be Stroud graduates. It makes a nice present for those on your “hard to buy for” gift list.
My friend, Anna Lee Sexton, called me the other day and said if I didn’t answer she figured I was probably on the ballfield. I told her I attended eight ballgames this past weekend along with my mother, and wow, we could sure feel it in our bones Monday morning. Lincoln and August played with their team, the Naturals, in Morrison and Gideon played in the OK-Texas Shootout in the Tulsa area with the championship bracket played in Bartlesville. The little guys won both of their pool games beating the Hotshots 10-3 and the Perry Pistols 6-5. August and Lincoln shared the mound against the Hotshots. They combined for a total of five strikeouts. The Hotshots are a 10U team and the Naturals are 9U team, so it was a great win for the Naturals. I guess the Hotshots weren’t going to let us get the best of them twice, so they beat the Naturals in the first game of tournament play.
Gideon’s team, Sandlot 14U, won all three of their pool games, giving up only six runs in the first game and shutting out their opponents in the next two games. In the second game of tournament play Gideon homered to right field. He pitched in the semi-finals giving up no hits and no runs over four innings and striking out seven and walking one. Sandlot beat the Moore Risin 8-0 but unfortunately lost to the OK Fuel Brumbaugh in the championship game. Sandlot finished second in the tournament out of sixty-four teams. Gage Bailey, another Stroud eighth grader, plays for the OK Fuel – Voegele and also participated in the tournament. We were able to watch him play a couple of games. His team also qualified for the championship bracket. Gage played some great baseball, but his team lost in the quarterfinals.
I know everyone is looking forward to alumni weekend. It’s always a fun time to reconnect with old friends. Graduation is also just a couple of weeks away. Tiger gear is always a great gift so check out our local merchants. Thank you for continuing to shop local…………..first!
