The Town of Meeker is experiencing the COVID-19. It is hard to believe all the lock downs we are seeing.
Now is the time for all of us to continue to support all our local businesses that are staying open, whether it be a drive thru restaurant or telephoning for special one on one appointments.
We can still buy our groceries, fuel, and dollar store items. Please remember to social distance (six feet) away from individuals and always be washing your hands.
For COVID safety, the new drop box for paying water bills and court fines has been installed in the South wall of the City Hall building.
It is located to the left of City Hall’s front door entrance. Look for the big red arrow. This is a regular working mail slot with a small door flapper. Just raise the flap and drop your bill and money into the slot.
We recommend that you use an envelope and exact amount, whether cash, check or money order. Also, keep your receipt.
Remember that City Hall’s front door is locked and will not be open. Please call for an appointment, if you need to see anyone in City Hall during normal working hours. We are still at City Hall from 8am-12pm/1pm-5pm. PWA is also fully staffed. Also, the library. museum, and court are closed until further notice.
PWA had a Vacuum Tank Truck clean out all of our Sewer Man Hole problem areas. It had been several years since this was done. Now with the regular maintenance the PWA guys are doing on all the sewer lines, hopefully they will stay clean and running down hill. We do ask that you do not flush any kind of wipes, towels, etc. Please put those in your trash cans.
Oklahomans know we are entering into storm season. Our Police Officers
Our Police Officers are going door to door and compiling a list of who has storm shelters. In case we have a storm they will know where to look for you and how many to look for.
They are also asking how many Native Americans may live in the household. This will help us with grants down the road. Thank you for sharing information with us, it could be life saving.
Also Chief Norton suggested for all to stay home and keep your doors locked during this COVID-19 period.
A special thanks to the families that have donated time and money to help others. The Town does have volunteers for anyone that needs help with delivery of groceries. It is times like these that Oklahomans really step up and take care of one another. You will receive blessings for such acts.
Congratulations to Mike McCormick for winning the Oklahoma Natural Gas Editorial writing contest. To read Mike’s award-winning column visit okpress. com.
The Town of Meeker passed its Commerce Department inspection on all the paperwork that had to be completed for the finalization on our new Oak Street fire station.
A great big thank you goes to all the Meeker Firemen that burnt the grass off of the Meeker Dam. This will allow the start of all the work that needs to be done before the NRCS actually start moving dirt and for the 8 ½ ft. of dirt to be put on top of the existing dam. Much more to come about the Lake Projects.
We still have several companies that are working on our Glenncrest Park Project. We still plan on doing it this Summer.
COVID-19 has so many things on hold and lock down. But we are still taking baby steps forward.
