After three heavyweight bouts to start the season, Stroud’s Tigers made short work of Kellyville last week, whipping the Ponies 54-0 and extending their four-year district unbeaten streak to 22 games.
The Tigers are back home at Jack Poskey Stadium Friday to host Meeker for Homecoming. The Bulldogs are coming off a 34-14 loss to Luther in their district opener.
TheTigers’first three games were slugfests, with comefrom-behind wins against Class A powers Tonkawa and Pawnee and a five-point loss to Chandler. Head coach Josh Presley said he’s pleased with how his team has responded.
“We hit our stride,” he said. “When you start off with a bunch of sophomores and new kids, it takes a while for them to settle in and be able to play fast.
“I’ve been happy with the effort. Those two games against Tonkawa and Pawnee, they kept fighting and found a way to win. They never gave in.”
Against the Ponies, senior Jacob Beck was a scoring machine, putting up five touchdowns while rushing only six times and catching two passes.
Beck had six rushes for 169 yards and four of his touchdowns and went for 50 yards and his other score on pass receptions.
Presley praised the Tigers’ overall defense and the offensive line.
“On defense, we gave up 54 yards on 54 plays,” he said. “I give our kids a lot of credit,” he said. “They were physical and ran to the football like we preach.
“The offensive line did a great job up front. We have some really good running backs, but they had some pretty good-sized holes to run through.
“Kiegan Smith stepped in and did a really good job.” They were physical and ran to the football like we preach.”
