Davenport’s head football coach John Greenfield garnered his 200th win as the Bulldogs cruised past Alex 36-0 last week in their homecoming contest.
Greenfield, who has coached the Bulldogs for 18½ seasons since their transition to eight-man football, was asked how it felt to reach that milestone.
“Pretty nice for the players,” the veteran head mentor replied. “There’s been a bunch of good players come through here,” he noted.
Talking about the Bulldogs’ homecoming win over Alex, Greenfield said, “We played well. We had a little trouble with their stunts, but at halftime we made some adjustments that slowed that down.”
The coach thinks, “Everybody played really well. They just played good, steady football and didn’t make many mistakes. They played hard the whole game,” he said of his team, as the Bulldogs recorded their third consecutive win to increase their record to 3-2 on the season.
“We led 22-0 at halftime, although we didn’t score in the first period,” Greenfield stated.
“Our defense played solid the whole game,” he added.
The Bulldogs open district play Friday night as they host Strother. Greenfield said kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.
Strother is winless, he said, noting, “They’re struggling a little.”
The Bulldogs are healthy. “No major injuries,” the coach commented.
“Hoping to win our fourth game in a row,” said Greenfield.
