Town Talk

A big Town Talk shout-out to the Stroud Chamber of Commerce along with President Erin Bradley on the great Christmas parade this past Saturday night.

Erin said she felt like the parade was a success and that she received positive feedback on the Elvis theme.

She also said that community members had messaged her about how much they enjoyed the event. Winner of the Elvis contest was none other than Stroud’s own pharmacist Bill “Elvis” Ash.

I think First Bank & Trust Co.’s Adam Chace gave him a run for his money, but Bill prevailed. They could pass for the younger Elvis and the “mature” Elvis. Thanks to everyone who participated.

Activities for the coming week include a Stroud Arts Council meeting at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 7th and City Council meeting at 6:00 p.m. today (Thursday).

The December Masonic Lodge breakfast will be this Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. at the Ag building, Oklahoma Blood Institute blood drive from 12:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 12th in Agra, Stroud Food Panty will be open on Tuesday, December 13th from 9:00 a.m. until noon and the Chamber of Commerce will meet at 5:30 p.m. also on Tuesday.

Dental Designs new office is now open on the southeast corner of Main and 1st Avenue.

Dr. Francis’s building is a great new aesthetically pleasing addition to Stroud’s Route 66 curb appeal. Cindy Mason has opened her new business, Trinity Nutrition, on the northwest corner of 1st and Main, too, so there is new activity extending further east on our Main Street.

John D. Newnam is sprucing up his feed and supply store just off the corner of Highways 66 & 99.

It’s great to see that building getting a face lift. We have a very active Main Street along with our many businesses on Highway 99. As one of our local t-shirts states, “Things are Hoppin’ in Stroud, OK.”

Basketball season is under way and the high school Tigers will play this Thursday through Saturday in the Agra Tournament with games starting at 4:00 p.m.

On Tuesday, December 13th the Tigers will travel to Davenport. Junior varsity and varsity boys and girls will compete and these games, too, will begin at 4:00 p.m.

The 6th grade basketball team is competing this week in a tournament at Wellston and Thursday night, December 8th, the 7th and 8th grade boys and girls will take on Wellston here in Stroud. Community basketball takes place this Saturday with our elementary students competing at Memorial Gym.

Looks like we have a full week of basketball so let’s get out and cheer on our Tigers.

My sweet mom is celebrating her 93rd birthday this Friday. If you happen to see her out and about on the streets of Stroud please wish her a happy birthday and ask her “Should you still be driving?”

Don’t expect her to laugh though, because I’ve tried it. I just get a lecture on her amazing driving skills. LOL Anyway, I feel blessed that my mother is still with me and doing pretty well for her age or any age, for that matter. Stroud’s dear friend Cathy Terry’s birthday was this week, also. Her birthday was December 4th.

Cathy was not only a friend, but a treasured member of Town Talk and we continue to miss her.

Did you know we have only seventeen more “sleeps” until Christmas Day? Are you the eager beaver who’s already finished your Christmas shopping? If not, it’s time to head out to our local merchants. Take your list with you and check it once and check it twice and see how many items you can mark off your Christmas list by shopping right here in Stroud, America.

Don’t forget to play Bingo with the Chamber as you visit businesses.

Have a great week and thank you for continuing to shop and dine local………………first!
