A Meeker man faces two felonies after he reportedly assaulted a Lincoln County deputy sheriff and threatened to burn down his grandparents’ home.
Casen Anthony Morgan, 28, was formally charged in Lincoln County District on Jan. 19, with felony assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and plan/attempt/conspire to perform an act of violence.
A $5,000 bench warrant was issued for his arrest the same day he was charged.
Supplemental information filed by Assistant District Attorney Rachel Thompson shows Morgan was convicted on Feb. 8, 2019, in Lincoln County District Court of second degree burglary.
In Count 1, Morgan is charged with assaulting Deputy Kevin Chapman with a knife.
On Count 2, he is charged on the same day of pouring gasoline on the porch with the intent to cause serious harm or death to Cynthia Fenci, his grandmother.
In a probable cause affidavit, Deputy Chapman states he responded to a call around 8 p.m. on Jan. 8 to a residence on South 3400 Rd., Meeker, to a report of a subject having a mental health episode.
He said he met with deputies already on the scene as he arrived and was advised that Morgan had left the scene prior to law enforcement arriving. He was informed Morgan had poured gasoline upon the porch of the residence and threatened to burn down the house.
Chapman stated he met with Morgan’s grandmother, Cynthia Fenci and grandfather Frederick Fenci. He was told the threats were made and acted on by Morgan, who applied gasoline and telling Ms. Fenci what he was intending to do.
Chapman said in the affidavit that he remained on the scene after other law enforcement had left, parking his patrol unit in the driveway with his lights off, anticipating that Morgan would return, Ms. Fenci approached Chapman’s patrol vehicle around 9:30 p.m. and told the deputy that Morgan was back and inside the residence.
Chapman went inside, making contact with Morgan and telling him to stand up because he was under arrest.
Morgan told the deputy he couldn’t stand up and as Chapman attempted to assist Morgan off the couch Morgan sat up and lunged toward him.
The deputy used his taser and began drive stunning Morgan, telling him to lay down, but he continued to resist, according to the affidavit.
Morgan reportedly got to his feet and pushed away from Chapman, knocking his taser to the ground. Morgan grabbed a bowie style knife, turning toward Chapman, at which time the deputy unholstered his weapon as he ordered Morgan to stop.
