Meeker board of education meeting

Meeker Board of Education members this week approved the 2024-2025 Estimate of Needs and Financial Statement and approved the FFA to attend the National Convention in Indianapolis, Ind.

School Supt. Jeff Pruitt said the 2024-2025 Estimate of Needs totals $10,223,353.62. That compares with last year’s total Estimate of Needs of $10,748,936.

The 2022-2023 Estimate of Needs totaled $9,359,648.58.

The board members also approved the 2024-2025 Activity Funds including fundraisers/expenditures for the period Sep. 9, 2024 to Sep. 30, 2025.

They approved the operation of booster clubs in individual activity accounts for the 2024-2025 school year. They included boosters for archery, band, baseball, basketball, cheer, cross country/track, football, softball and Elementary PTO.

Board members approved the sanction of the Parent Booster Group for the 2024-2025 school year for Ag Boosters.

Without going into executive session, they accepted the resignation of Latisha Young, high school/middle school cafeteria and offered contracts for the 2024-2025 school year to Marsha Smith and Shari Rector, both high school/middle school cafeteria.

High School Principal Brad Buxton reported enrollment stands at 239 students. He spoke about the College Fair Meeker hosted, calling it “a real good turnout,” with 14 colleges attending and students being able to have one on one conversations with college representatives.

He noted the Meeker Education Center has 75 students taking blended courses.

Elementary Principal Sarah Flowers advised board members enrollment is 336 as of this month. She advised the board about “Breakfast and Books with Grandparents” is scheduled for Monday, Sep. 16 and a book fair goes all the way through next Friday.

Middle School Principal Matt Jones reported enrollment is 204 in grades 6-8 with 75 eighth graders. He informed the board members of “lots of activities” that are taking place.
