Davenport falls to Yale, 49-0

Playing their final non-district game of the season on the road against No. 2 ranked Yale, the Davenport Bulldogs suffered a 49-0 defeat.

Coach John Greenfield said Monday, “We took the game to the fourth quarter. We’re the first team to take them past half time so far this season,” he noted.

Greenfield stated, “Yale is ranked No. 2 in B-1, is undefeated and only six points have been scored on them all season.”

The veteran head coach pointed out, “We showed really good effort. We played hard,” he thought.

Greenfield said Yale’s defensive line is really good and they have a running back who is solid too.

“We’d get a drive going, then we’d make some mistake,” the coach said.

Davenport hosts Cherokee Friday night for its district opener. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. at Bulldog Stadium.

“Ought to be a really good game. We match up pretty well with them. It’s an important game for us as far as home advantage in the playoffs,” Greenfield believes.

He said running back Ivan Morris suffered a leg injury early in the Yale game but he expects him back for Friday night’s district opener.

Freshman quarterback Chase Mitchell was 11 for 28 passing for 127 yards and Brody Robinson gained 25 yards on five carries.

Robinson also had 13 solo tackles and six assists for a total of 19 on the night.

Reece Murfin caught four passes for 49 yards and on defense had five solo tackles and two assists.

Mark Mascho had five catches for 49 yards.

Tyler Gilkison had a total of eight tackles, three of them unassisted along with a sack.

Aydan Stancell picked off a pass for an interception.
