The Lady Lions are shooting for their second straight trip to the state tournament, and started the season like they’ll make it.

Through games of Sep. 27, they were 9-1 and have rung up seven shutouts.

Senior lefthander Kennedy Allen, pictured at right, has been in the circle for six of them and still hasn’t allowed an earned run.

An Oklahoma State commit, she’s pitched 29 innings over her six starts and has allowed just six hits. That’s not a typo.

Six hits, total, for an average of giving up a hit about every five innings. She has struck out 51 of the 103 batters she’s faced.

As an opposing coach said: “She gives them a chance to win every game they play.”

Senior catcher Ruthie Capps has led the team’s offense, banging out a .471 average through nine games and driving in five runs out of the leadoff spot.

Hallie Hermann .has hit .444 with a spectacular .615 OBS. Madison Cagle is at .435 and Elli Hilgenfeld at .421.

Key games:

- The Lady Lions are one of the haves in District 3A-5, along with Kiefer and Sperry. Kiefer looked impressive early in the season, going 10-2 through games of Sep. 17 and getting six shutouts. The Lady Lions go Kiefer on Sep. 9 and host the Lady Trojans on Sep. 25.

- Sperry, which has a district loss to Kiefer already, hosts the Lady Lions Sep. 8 and comes to Chandler on Sep. 15.
