Lions 54, Westville 6

Chandler dominated a district opponent for the second straight week, drubbing the Westville Yellowjackets, 54-6, Thursday It was the second blowout in a row, following a 52-6 win over Tulsa Webster a week ago, and it left the Lions in a four-way tie for third place in District 2A-1-4. Chandler, Dewey, Sperry and Tulsa Central all have 2-2 district records.

The Lions iced the game in the first quarter, getting a 60-yard touchdown pass from Chace Buchanan to freshman Josiah Tillis on the first snap and then scoring four more times in the quarter. The touchdowns came on a 69yard run by Buchanan, a 66-yard run by Buchanan, a 28-yard pass to Darius Wade and an 18-yard pass to Wade.

Coach Jack Gray said the Lions have stayed focused and mentally ready despite the recent one-sided wins.

“For one thing, we’ve got 24 players out, so we don’t have a lot of players to sub,” he said. “We’re practicing against everyone every day and we’re getting a lot of guys mixed in with the 1s with the 2s, so they’re getting a lot of reps together.

“We’re doing spreading the ball around and everyone knows they could touch the ball at any time.

“So everyone is staying geared up.”

The Lions are on the road again this week, traveling to Tulsa Central for a 7 p.m. kickoff on Friday.
