Winning big

The Chandler girls and Stroud boys took all the drama out of the 66 Conference golf tournament last week.

The Lady Lions had the top two finishers and won the girls championship by 51 strokes. The Tigers had the top three finishers in the boys tournament and won by 49 strokes.

Chandler freshman Logan Allen was the girls champion, shooting a 90 on Seminole’s Jimmie Austin Golf Course. Second was teammate Rhianne Dawley, who carded a 99.

Stroud’s Jett Cooper shot a 79 to lead the boys tournament. Teammates Reece Murfin and Aydan Stancell shot 81 and 83, respectively, to take second and third, respective- ly.

“The girls played well, especially considering three of them were in their first tournament,” said Chandler girls coach Kent Franz. “Logan is technically a freshman, but she doesn’t play like one.”

A gusty south wind made the day challenging and the greens were hard and fast.

“It took a while to adjust to it,” Franz said of the greens. “It was difficult, and some of the pin placements were crazy.”
