Central Oklahoma’s Heath Gray from Chandler earned a pair of awards Tuesday for his dominating performance in last weekend’s 41st Annual Midwest Classic in Indianapolis, Ind.
The junior 184-pounder was named both Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Wrestler of the Week and The Open Mat’s College Wrestler of the Week.
It marked the third time this season, and the second week in a row, that a UCO wrestler has claimed the league award.
Heath was never tested in going 5-0 to take the Midwest Classic crown and claim Outstanding Wrestler accolades. He opened the tournament with a fall and then outscored his next four opponents by a combined 60-11, recording a technical fall and three straight major decisions.
Heath is now 15-1 on the season and riding a 14-match winning streak. The returning All-American is ranked second in the country in Division II.
The No. 16-ranked Bronchos, who finished runner-up in the Midwest Classic, don’t return to action until taking on Ouachita Baptist Jan. 4 in a dual at Collinsville High School.
