Happenings at Prairie Pointe

Newlyweds Mr. and Mrs. Phil Wright (nee Anita Reynolds, daughter of former residents Alton and Ina McCune) delighted the residents Saturday, September 5, when they stopped by after their wedding to show off “the dress.” They also brought wedding cake and five silver goblets of flowers which had been the centerpieces at the reception. We could not be happier for this couple!

September birthdays at Prairie Pointe include resident Jo Sperry and staff members Emily Gonzales, Shellie Harris and Alison Emmons. Happy Birthdays ladies!

During church services Sunday, we enjoyed singing along with some Alan Jackson’s gospel songs. Rae Bland shared some of David’s life from I Samuel. Phil Johnson dismissed in prayer.

Halloween and fall decorating has begun at Prairie Pointe. Friday “Crafts with Lisa and Alison” resulted in some very cute garlands which now decorate the two main entries to the dining room.

Assembled on a jute rope, black wooden witches and cats along with spooky ghosts and orange pumpkins are intertwined with strips of fall plaid, tea-stained orange buffalo plaid and black and white check. Halloween is great holiday— no big special meal to prepare, no gifts to buy and orange and black just happen to be two of my favorite colors. Go Pokes!

Bret Graham’s Virtual Concert on the big screen continues to be a highlight of our week. We welcome him via Facebook every Monday evening at 6:00 PM. He will be here in person the evening of October 7 to perform outside at Prairie Pointe. Mark your calendars to come out and join us. BYOLC –Bring Your Own Lawn Chair and don’t forget a mask.

Speaking of masks, I know this is a controversial topic but it is a small thing you can do to help protect the most vulnerable among us—the mom who is going through chemo treatments, the little boy with asthma, the grandpa with multiple health issues. These people know they are high risk and are all but housebound because they can’t dare venture out.

We can help. We can wear a mask and help stop the spread of this virus so that everyone can go back to living a more normal life. I have heard people say, “I am fine, why should I be bothered?” Well, you could be one of the many people who are carriers and yet you have no symptoms. You could be infecting others and have no clue you are doing so. This virus is deadly. It is carried through the air and very easily transmitted from one to another. A mask will help keep your germs from getting out in the open. So, you are not wearing a mask to protect yourself but rather to protect others. Its not a Republican or Democrat thing. It’s an American thing. Please, just do it!
