Couslon leads Tigers to comeback win

McKoy Coulson racked up 366 yards of total offense and scored five touchdowns to lead Wellston to a 54-28 win over Drumright Friday.

It was the second triumph in a row for the Tigers, who travel to Regency Prep Friday night

“As always, McKoy Coulson turned in a stellar performance,” said Wellston head coach James Jones. “Our line played hard all night and out playmakers answered the bell.

“We challenged our guys early in the week and they responded well. Everyone stepped up their game.”

The Tigers rolled up 572 yards in total offense and were never threatened.

They opened up a 24-6 first quarter lead on a 98- yard run by Coulson, a 2-yard scoring pass from Kage Danker to Dakota Long and 72-yard scoring romp by Coulson.

Drumright cut the lead to 24-12 early in the second period, but that turned out to be the high-water mark for the Tornadoes.

Coulson ran for scores of 54 and 28 yards to make 38-12 by halftime and remove any lingering doubts about the outcome

“Drumright is big and physical,” Jones said. “I’m proud of all our guys. Everyone gave us everything.

“Joey Brown is becoming a bigger part of our game plan every week.

“And, most importantly, Kage Danker is becoming the quarterback this team needs.

“Our defense really came together as well. Jacob Saxon probably the played the best defensive game I’ve ever seen him play.”

Danker finished with 213 yards passing and four touchdowns and ran for an additional 21 yards.

Brown rushed 12 times for 130 yards and led the Tigers in tackles, registering 12, including five unassisted.

Jacob Saxon had nine tackles, including a sack and two stops for losses, and Ross Nichols had eight tackles, including one for minus yardage.
