Residents Beverley Graham and Thelma Mauldin helped fellow Hand and Foot Club member Nellie Faye Cooper celebrate a milestone birthday Sunday at the First Baptist Church Family Center. The event was hosted by Nellie Faye’s daughters Danna Kee and Shellie Martin and their families. Nellie Faye’s older brother shared some events of their childhood. Being older by 3 years, Robert Pearman was “in charge” of watching out for his sister while his parents worked in the cotton fields. One day, Nellie Faye managed to crawl into a car and closed the door on her foot which resulted in the amputation of her “wee wee wee all the way home” toe. To add insult to injury, the dismembered digit was promptly consumed by a chicken.
Paul Taylor has been gone two weeks visiting his daughter in Warner-Robbins, Georgia, where he also attended the wedding of his grandson. He had a great time but it’s always good to get home and we are happy to have him back. Welcome home, Paul!
Bro. David Lennox with the Milfay Baptist Church brought Sunday services this week. He read from Psalms 40 and reminded us as servants of the Lord we should strive to do His will.
Spring is in the air and Alison Emmons has been busy sprucing up the front and backyards as well as the patio areas of Prairie Pointe. We have some new plants and flowers and the water fountain is bubbling again. The Purple Martins have returned to their home Wirt Trawick erected several years ago. He makes sure it is cleaned out and ready for them each year. It is always fun to spot the first scout and then watch the rest of the clan arrive.
Taking a break from Oklahoma history, the next book we will be reading after lunch each day is “I Still Dream About You” by Fannie Flagg. Reviews say it is a wonderful novel that is equal parts southern charm, murder mystery, and that perfect combination of comedy and old-fashioned wisdom that can be served up only this author. Flagg is also the author of the bestseller “Fried Green Tomatoes” which was made into a heartwinning major motion picture.
