Royce Gearl Lyon

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Royce Lyon announces his unexpected, yet peaceful, passing from this life to his Heavenly home on July 16, 2026, in Oklahoma City, surrounded by loved ones. Royce Gearl Lyon, a longtimeresidentofDavenport, Oklahoma, was born on September 16, 1963, in Prague, Oklahoma, to Bobby Gearl Lyon and Evelyn “Jolene” McKinney Lyon. He attended Paden Public Schools and graduated in 1981. Following high school, Royce attended Seminole State College and later Oklahoma State University, where he may have enjoyed his college years a little too much, but ultimately earned a degree in Agricultural Education. On May 16, 1987, Royce married the love of his life, Shelley Marie Melson. Together, Royce and Shelley shared 41 years filled with love, laughter, and family. Theywereblessedwithfive children, who became the center of their world.

In 1988, Royce accepted a position in the Stroud/ Milfayarea,wheretheyhad yet to run him off. At the time of his passing, he was still employed as the Damage Prevention Supervisor for PetroLink.

From childhood and throughout his life, Royce had a deep love for the outdoors. He cherished time spent hunting and fishing with family and friends, coached countless ballgames, and devoted many early mornings and late nights to the show barn. He believed that hard work brought rewards and worked diligently to instill that value in his children.

Royce was immensely proud of each of his five children and loved them beyondmeasure.However, his greatest joy came from his five grandchildren, who lovingly called him “Pa.” They were truly the light of his life and the source of countless cherished memories.

Known for his ornery spirit and unmatched ability to lovingly aggravate those closest to him, Royce broughtlaughterandsmiles wherever he went. His quick wit, playful nature, and larger-than-life presence will be missed more than words can express, but the love and memories he leaves behind will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.

He is preceded in death byhismother,Jolene;father and mother-in-law, Mark E. and Carol Melson; and brother-in-law, Glenn Melson.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife Shelley, of the home; daughters -Whitney Lyon Mayberry (Dillon) and Shelbey Lyon (Jessica); sons - Tyler Lyon (Maricela), Hunter Lyon (Charlie), andTanner Lyon (Crista); grandkids – Cristian, Nolan, and Katalina Lyon and Troy and Elley Mayberryandbabycoming soon Carter Lyon; father Bob Lyon; sister Rhonda Lyon Terronez (Bruce); brother and sister-in-laws, Amy Nickell Melson, Keta Melson Gibson (Jeremy) and Brian Melson (Maureen); along with many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and extended family who loved and respected him deeply. Services were 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at Davenport First Baptist Church with burial to follow at Davenport Cemetery. A guest book is available to share your memories online.
