Stroud’s softball wrapped up a record-breaking season with an appearance in the Class 2A state tournament last week, falling to eventual state runnerup Dale, 14-4.
Dale took a 6-0 lead in the game, which was interrupted by a thunderstorm delay, but Stroud cut the margin to 6-4 in the top of the third inning. Dale pushed across seven in the bottom of the inning, then scored the winner in the fifth.
“We had a phenomenal year,” said coach Lezli Robinson. “We were 27-5 which is the best overall record in school history.
“Our six seniors were our backbone all year long! They were exceptional on the mound, behind the plate, at the corners and in the outfield.
“They all had tremendous offensive numbers, as well. They showed that their commitment and dedication does pay off and helped lead us to the state tourney. I am extremely proud of their accomplishments as a team and proud to be their coach.”
The Lady Tigers had four hits against Dale, with those coming from Janay Cline, Katlyn Hughey, Emma Davis and Alyssa DeLeon. Hughey had a double and two RBI .
