On Friday, Nov. 3, 2023, at the Joe Telford football field in Chandler, as everyone in attendance stood for the playing of our National Anthem, it was with embarrasment and great disheartening to discover NO flag flying on the pole or anywhere on the field.

As soon as I answered a call from Kindra last week, my phone turned off and gave me a message that said, paraphrased: “The battery in your iPhone is nearly kaput. Better think about getting a new phone.” Great.

The guy at the checkout stand glanced at my driver’s license. “Oh, wow,” he said. “You have a birthday tomorrow.” “No, that was a few weeks ago.” It was then that I noticed he was looking at the expiration date. Dern it. It was Monday night and my license was expiring on Tuesday.

Watching the World Series this year is extra special because former Chandler High School athletic standout Jon Gray is pitching for the Texas Rangers against the Arizona Diamondbacks. While a student at Chandler Jon played baseball, basketball and football. His senior year he focused on baseball.

In just little over a week, the 2023-2024 quail hunting season begins statewide. Opening date to hunt the popular bobwhite is Saturday, Nov. 11. The season runs through Feb. 15, 2024. From the reports I’ve seen and heard, the quail numbers are up over a year ago.

Judge should resign

Embattled Lincoln County District Judge Traci Soderstrom should do what is right and immediately resign from her position. Last week following an extensive investigation by the Oklahoma Council of Judicial Complaints, the State Supreme Court filed a petition seeking Soderstrom’s removal.
