Remembering Pearl Harbor

Next Wednesday is Dec. 7. That day will mark 81 years ago that the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, the act that thrust the United States into World War II. Hundreds of thousands of American men and women are no longer around to share their feelings, their thoughts about that day.

Remembering Veterans Day

Last Friday, this nation celebrated what I think is one of the greatest holidays of the year, Veterans Day. It was the 103rd Veterans Day to be observed. I know some took the time that day to pause, think about and honor all the brave men and women who have served this country.

Bad chicken or bad mojo?

As the nurses were hooking me to the defibrillator, I was terrified at the thought of needing to be shocked. I had been wanting Braum’schickenstripswith Braum’s sauce for a week or so when we decided to load up and drive over to have Braum’s for dinner.

Sense of smells

I had just gotten back to my barracks from the base exchange at Clark Air Base in the Phillipines with a box of 35mm camera film. I had bought an Olympus 35mm camera from a buddy and this was the first roll of film I’d bought to run through it.

Letter to the editor

To the editor: Since doing away with one voting day, we will never again have fair elections. Ballot counting going on for days and even weeks leaves too much room for adding or destroyingballots.

Town Talk

Thank you to everyone who came out Saturday night to help the American Legion Auxiliary and Town Talk honor our veterans and current military. Thank you, also, to BancFirst, First Bank & Trust and RCB Bank for generously supporting this event. We received great reviews on the evening.

Missed moments

All those special moments you can never experience again such as your high school graduation, the birth of your children, your wedding day, and countless others. They only come once in a lifetime. You think about all the good things that happened on those days.

Remembering a mother

A woman I haven’t spoken much about in this space is my mother who reared me from shortly after I turned six years old. As many of you are aware, my maternal mother passed away when I was 3½ years old. She died of acute leukemia.
