Last Friday, this nation celebrated what I think is one of the greatest holidays of the year, Veterans Day. It was the 103rd Veterans Day to be observed. I know some took the time that day to pause, think about and honor all the brave men and women who have served this country.

I had just gotten back to my barracks from the base exchange at Clark Air Base in the Phillipines with a box of 35mm camera film. I had bought an Olympus 35mm camera from a buddy and this was the first roll of film I’d bought to run through it.

To the editor: Since doing away with one voting day, we will never again have fair elections. Ballot counting going on for days and even weeks leaves too much room for adding or destroyingballots.

A woman I haven’t spoken much about in this space is my mother who reared me from shortly after I turned six years old. As many of you are aware, my maternal mother passed away when I was 3½ years old. She died of acute leukemia.
