I see where the annual Faith 7 bowl is back after a taking a year off due to COVID-19. The game is slated for Saturday, June 5, at Oklahoma Baptist University’s Noble Complex.

Last week I had the opportunity to be involved in reviewing applications for an annual scholarship that our Shawnee Rotary Club provides. Along with several other Rotarians, I had the privilege of helping decide from about 10 applications submitted by seniors from two area high schools.

Food giveaway in Wellston

On Friday, May 14 , free food will be distributed through the USDA’s Farmers to Families Food Box Program. The boxes contain a meat product, dairy, fruit and vegetables so plan for refrigeration. The program benefits farmers and prevents the waste of agriculture products.

CHS Alumni activities are planned

The Chandler High School Alumni Board announced that alumni activities will be held this year albeit with changes from previous years. On Friday, May 14, the Annual Golf Tournament will start at 1 p.m. The dances have been canceled but activities with classes are encouraged.

Register now for Kids’ Summer Reading at Chandler Library

Sign-ups are underway and will continue through May 28 for the Summer Reading Program at Chandler Public Library, 1021 S. Manvel. The program will be on a much smaller scale this year for children five years old and under. Each age group will attend their own program. Each program will be 10-11 a.

Prague Library receives technology grant

Haynie Public Library of Prague has received a $1,639 grant from the Federal Library Services and Technology Act. The funds will be used to purchase four web cameras and three headphones with microphones for staff and seven for the public computers.

Dale hires new elementary school principal

The Dale Board of Education this week voted to hire a new Elementary School Principal and a new elementary teacher. Dale Acting School Supt. Ky Wilkins said the new Elementary Principal is Courtney Howser. He advised she is currently with the Gordon Cooper Technology Center in Shawnee.
