A recent traffic collision on U.S. 66 and County Road 3520 resulted in the driver facing a felony charge of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
Shelton James Sutton, 48, of Joplin. Mo., was formally charged in Lincoln County District Court Oct. 13 with DUI.
Special Judge Emily Mueller set a $3,000 bond for Sutton who made his initial appearance on Oct. 14. She scheduled a pre-preliminary hearing for 1:30 p.m. on Nov. 4.
Sutton is accused of on Sept. 30 this year of being involved in a single vehicle collision while driving a Chevy truck under the influence of an intoxicating substance, or a combination of alcohol and drugs.
State Trooper Broden Carls, in a probable cause affidavit, reports he was dispatched on Sept. 30 to single vehicle personal injury crash at U.S. 66 and County Road 3520. While heading to the crash, he was advised the driver was being taken to Stroud Regional Hospital because he was intoxicated.
Carls stated he investigated the crash, then headed to the hospital where he met Sutton who admitted he was driving the vehicle.
