Several area communities in Lincoln County are planning to hold Memorial Day observances.
Carroll Harper, with the Cemetery Association at Meeker, says a Memorial Day observance will be held at New Hope Cemetery beginning at 11 a.m. that morning.
“We will have a few readings, play the Star Spangled Banner, and raise the flag,” Harper explained.
He said then veterans will be asked to stand and give their name and branch of service. “We will play TAPS and do the flag salute,” he added.
At Stroud, Diana Reed, American Legion Auxiliary leader, said that community has planned an observance beginning at 10 a.m. on Memorial Day, May 30, at the Stroud Cemetery.
“We will have a little program,” she said, “including music, a short speaker, gun salute, playing of TAPS and laying of a wreath.”
In Prague, City Manager Jim Greff said that community’s Memorial Day observance will be at 10 a.m. Sunday, May 29, at the Prague Cemetery and the American Legion will be in charge.
In Chandler, Memorial Day ceremonies will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Oak Park Cemetery.
An employee at City Hall in Wellston reported the American Legion is putting out flags in the town on Friday evening, May 27. She noted that flags also will be placed at the city cemetery on Friday evening as well.
Davenport’s observance will start at 9:45 a.m. on Memorial Day at the Davenport Cemetery, a town official said. The American Legion will raise the flag and there will be something else held after that, she said.
