The Chandler Board of Education accepted the resignation of three people and hired a new teacher and a bus driver during its meeting this week.
A bid was approved for the East Side Elementary School parking lot and a bid also was approved for the lease of 10 school buses.
Several other contracts were also renewed.
School Supt. Melody Toma said resignations were accepted from Eddie Battershell, secondary math teacher; Rebecca Stone, elementary teacher and Rachel Hammock, Title VI tutor.
Toma said of Battershell, “He’s been here for 38 years. He’s been a math teacher, coach, school bus driver, mows for us during the summer and helps around with custodial work.”
She said that, “Becky Stone has been with us 33 years. She’s been a first and second grade teacher, and a Title I Reading Specialist.”
Rachel Hammock was a Title VI tutor for a year, Toma said.
Following a brief executive session, Toma said, the board hired Alisha Sams as an elementary teacher.
“She’s been a teacher’s aide for us since 2015 and has earned her degree and now will teach second grade for us,” Toma explained.
The board also hired Amber Fowler as a full time bus driver.
A service contract was approved for Bridgette Townsend for Physical Therapy services for the 2021-2022 school year.
Board members also approved a service contact for Jacie Fite for Physical Therapy services for the 2021-2022 school year, Toma said.
The board voted to approve an agreement with Janice Gray for psychometric testing and consultation services for the 2021-2022 school year.
A service contract was approved for Peggy Baker for Occupational Therapy services for the 2021-2022 school year.
Toma said the board accepted the bid of Armor Asphalt for $54,043.70 for the parking lot project at East Side Elementary.
A bid was also accepted from Ross Transportation for the lease of 10 school buses for $16,800 per unit, she noted.
The board members approved the policy for “Individual Career and Academic Plan (ICAP),” Toma stated.
