An occupational accident on a construction site at a church in Sparks has claimed the life of a Stillwater man, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Capt. Chuck Brewer confirmed.
Brewer identified the victim as Jose Escobedo, 21.
Brewer said the accident occurred around noon on Wednesday, April 7, at the Assembly of God Church in Sparks.
He reported the Sheriff’s Office received the 911 call at 12:08 p.m. and that both the Chandler EMS and the Sparks Fire Department also responded to the call. “They were there within minutes of each other,” Brewer stated.
The Chandler EMS declared the man deceased, he said.
Brewer said the investigation is open and that he and OSHA are involved. “They will determine the exact cause of the accident,” Brewer said.
The sheriff’s captain said Escobedo was operating a skid steer when the accident occurred. He noted that Escobedo was a subcontractor who was working for the general contractor Joe Hall at that work site.
Brewer said the accident occurred at 347489 E. 990 Road in Sparks. “It’s near the church on church property,” he added.
He emphasized, “It’s yet to be determined exactly what happened depending on the OSHA investigation.”
