Meeker Board of Education members this week adopted a resolution for the annual school election and approved purchase of a 71-passenger bus.
They also approved holding graduation to be held at Camp Cargill on May 10, 2024.
The filing period for the annual school election will be Monday through Wednesday Dec. 4-6 and Office No. 4 is up for election in 2024.
Board member Becky Briggs currently holds that seat.
She was asked prior to Monday night’s meeting is she going to seek another term, and she replied that she was not.
She’s in the final year of her second consecutive five-year term, School Supt. Jeff Pruitt confirmed.
The board approved purchase of the 71-passenger bus on state bid. Pruitt explained, “This is a gas bus. It will take about 240 days before the bus is here,” he said.
Pruitt noted the district is trying to move away from the diesel buses due to the cost of repairs on those buses.
Board members also voted to allow the Meeker Youth League to use the old and elementary gyms.
They approved participation in a behavioral health aide program.
They also approved of the district administering the ACT to eligible juniors in the spring of 2024.
Without going into executive session, the board voted to offer a contract for the 2023-2024 school year to Sarah Lynch as an elementary Aide and disapproved Kristina Cushenberry as an elementary Aide.
Pruitt told the board that Cushenberry had contacted him saying she no longer wanted to be considered for the position.
In their reports, High School Principal Brad Buxton informed the board enrollment stands at 233, up from the 209 at the end of last year. He mentioned the number of various activities taking place this month and early next month.
He said the Ag program had done well at the State Fair.
