Area graduation dates set

Area high school commencement exercises have been scheduled for graduating seniors in Lincoln and Pottawatomie Counties, though details for some are still being worked out.

Agra: School Supt. Jeff Kelly says graduation exercises are scheduled for 7 p.m., Friday, May 14, in the new high school gymnasium. There will be 20 graduates. Masks are recommended but not required and social distancing will be by families sitting together. A senior parade will be held either before or after he said, with those details still being worked out.

Wellston: School Supt. Dwayne Danker said commencement will be at 7 p.m. in the high school gymnasium on Thursday, May 13. There will be 23 graduates, he said, about half the normal number. Masks are recommended, “but we haven’t decided yet on whether to limit the number of people.”

Chandler: High School Principal Randy Hedge said graduation is scheduled for 8 p.m. on Friday, May 14, at Joe Telford Field. There will be around 74 graduates, and “we don’t plan to have any restrictions. No masks required and we have no social distancing since it will be outside,” he said.

Meeker: School Supt.

Jeff Pruitt explains final details are being worked out with a venue and an announcement will be made once the Board of Education approves it on April 12.

Dale: Assistant High School Principal JD Widner said graduation is set for Thursday, May 20, at 7:30 p.m. at the Firelake Arena in Shawnee. There will be around 61 graduates. “Arena Protocol will be followed,” he explained.

McLoud: High School Principal Bryan Jennings said graduation is set for 7 p.m. Friday, May 14, at the Firelake Arena in Shawnee. He said students may bring up to eight guests each. He said Firelake personnel will handle social distancing of seating students and their guests.

Davenport: High School Principal Misty Emmons said graduation is set for 7 p.m. on Friday, May 20, at the First Baptist Church in Davenport. There will be 19 to 20 graduates. Baccalaureate services are 7 p.m. on Sunday, May 16. Other details are still being discussed, she said.

Stroud: High School Principal Scott Baade said commencement exercises are scheduled for Saturday, May 21, at the Stroud Coliseum. There will be 45 graduates. Masks are recommended but not required and social distancing is sitting in own family groups.

Carney: Supt. Brian Keith who is also high school principal, said graduation is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Friday, May 14, outdoors. There will be social distancing of chairs placed but masks are not required as long as it’s outside. He said if the weather is bad, it will be held in the multi purpose building on campus and then masks would be required.

Prague: School Supt. Valerie Feltman said commencement exercises will be at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 7 in the high school gym. Students will be on the gym floor and will be required to social distance. “Masks are required for everyone,” she said, “but the crowd will be able to social distance as they want,” she added. No tickets are needed.
