Arrest in domestic assault case

Chandler police and a Lincoln County deputy arrested a subject after they were called to a reported domestic assault of a woman who had suffered a stroke three weeks earlier.

A formal charge of domestic assault and battery was filed in Lincoln County District Court on Nov. 29 against Randy Glen Maxwell, 63.

A bond of $3,000 was set for Maxwell with the stipulation he have no contact with the victim. His initial appearance has been scheduled for 1:30 p.m. today, Dec. 30.

Maxwell is accused of committing assault and battery on Tanya Wiggs on Nov. 21 by hitting her several times with a mop handle with force and violence with the intent to injure her. The charge states the defendant has a dating relationship with her.

Supplemental information filed by prosecutors states Maxwell on March 28, 2016, in Lincoln County District Court was convicted of the misdemeanor offense of domestic assault and battery.

Chandler Police Officer Brent Berry who responded to a call on Nov. 21 stated in a probable cause affidavit that Wiggs met him at the door and she advised Berry that Maxwell had just beat her with a mop handle while she was in the restroom.

She further related to Berry that three weeks earlier she had been medi-flighted due to a stroke she had suffered and that she couldn’t defend herself from Maxwell any longer. She reportedly explained to the officer Maxwell broke her thumb.

Berry acknowledged it was swollen some and checked to see if she had other injuries. She told Berry she didn’t want an ambulance and that her mother was coming in the morning to help her move out of the residence.

Berry reported he went into the bedroom and found Mawell in the bed. The officer told Maxwell he was going to jail based on Wiggs’ statement, but Maxwell would not comply and Berry requested a deputy for assistance.

Lincoln County Deputy Jimmy Brewer responded. Maxwell continually told Berry he was not going to jail. Brewer and Berry both told Maxwell to stop resisting and Berry placed the defendant in a pair of double-locked handcuffs and transported Maxwell to the Lincoln County Jail in Chandler.
