Carney: Valedictorian and salutatorian

Officials at Carney High School have named the top two graduates for the 2021 graduating class. Sarah McFadden was named Valedictorian and Sara Mayes is the Salutatorian.

They were honored at commencement ceremonies on Friday, May 14.

McFadden is the daughter of Bill and Yolanda McFadden. She has attended Carney Schools for five years and finished up with a 3.94 grade point average.

McFadden has taken concurrent classes through Meridian Technology Center in Stillwater, Okla., and earned admittance into the National Technical Honor Society.

She demonstrated leadership qualities while serving as treasurer of the senior class and Student Council District 5 secretary. She served as president of the CHS chapter of Future Farmers of America for two years.

McFadden also participated in Cheer and Powerlifting.

In addition to academic work and extracurricular activities, she showed pride in her school by helping to clean up around the campus.

After graduating high school, McFadden will pursue a degree in athletic training at Iowa State University in Ames.

Sara Mayes, the daughter of Andrea and Rod Mayes, attended Carney Schools for two years and will graduate with a 3.91 GPA.

She was involved in the Health Occupations Students of America Association, which is an organization for future health professionals. Taking part in competitive events, she was ranked fifth in the state of Oklahoma for pharmacology.

Mayes was a member of Student Council and also participated in cheerleading and softball.

Her future plan is to have a solid career in the United States Air Force.
